Larilyn's Tip of the Week:   Microsoft Excel - Excel Key Shortcuts

You should know by now that I love keyboard shortcuts!

So today, I just have a compiled list of different shortcuts you can use when you are working in Excel.  If you work in Excel regularly, you should know and use these!

  • Ctrl+; —Inserts today's date in a highlighted cell.

  • Ctrl+Shift+:—Inserts the current time (the colon is what is in a clock reading, like 12:00).

  • Ctrl+Shift+#—Changes the format of a date.

  • Ctrl+5—Applies strike through to the text in the highlighted cell

  • Ctrl+0— Hides the column of the highlighted cell.

  • Ctrl+9—Hides the row of the highlighted cell.

  • Ctrl+F6—Switches between open Excel workbooks

  • Ctrl+`—It's hard to tell, but that's the accent mark that's under the Escape key.  This will turn on viewing for all the formulas in the worksheet.

  • Ctrl+PageUp or Ctrl+PageDown—Go between the sheets in the currently open workbook.

  • F2—Start editing the current selected cell instead of double-clicking.

  • Shift+F10—Opens the drop down menu for the cell you're in instead of right-clicking.

  • Shift+F2—You can add a comment to the cell if you are using the comments feature.

  • Ctrl+Shift+V—This pastes whatever you copied as a simple value – so if you are copying information generated by a formula, it pastes just the final value, not the formula itself.

So go forth and be more efficient in Excel!
