Larilyn's Tip of the Week:   Microsoft Word - Custom Bullet Points

I, for one, like to have a distinct style.

I like things to look nice and standardized, sure.  But I like to make sure things look the way I want them to look.  So today's tip comes in the form of how you can make something your own in Word but still make it unique.

Did you know that you can create custom bullets?  And I"m not talking about the kind you load into a barrel.  I'm talking about the symbols used when creating a bulleted list.  It's such a small thing, but it makes my inner nerd happy that I can pick the picture/symbol that I use as my bullet point!  And it couldn't be easier to set up.

First, with Word open you will make sure you are on the Home tab of your menu bar.  On the Bullet point option, you will see that there's a drop down menu.

By clicking on that drop down menu, you will see an option to Define New Bullet.  Click on that!

This will open up a new box where you can choose what you want to use as your bullet character (a symbol or picture perhaps) and how you want your bullets to align!

Once you make your selections, the preview box will show you what your bullet points would look like.  I was hypothetically making a list of rules for a poker night, so I went with clubs as my bullet points, with a center alignment.

I like the look, so I hit OK.

And the great thing is, once you set it up - it is there in your Bullet library to be used again in the future!

So happy customizing my friends!  It's not a huge deal, but it's fun.
